Get more answers to your InMails — with just one simple question!

A few weeks ago, someone asked me why almost no one responds to their InMails.
20 messages – 0 reactions.
Does that sound familiar? You put in the effort, write politely, but it feels like you’re talking into a void.
➡️ The real question is:
How do you get people to respond to your InMail – without overwhelming them with a pitch?
Here’s the psychological trick that actually works 👇
1️⃣ Start with a question – not an offer.
For example: “Am I right in assuming that you work in IT security?”
It’s neutral, curious, and easy to answer.
2️⃣ Use the human need to be right.
People love to confirm or correct others.
When they reply – even with “No, that’s not correct” – the chat is open.
3️⃣ Keep it short.
An InMail isn’t a novel. One sentence + one question is enough.
4️⃣ Build on the reply later.
If someone responds, you can reach out again months later – the chat remains open like a regular LinkedIn message.
💡 The first step to getting more InMail responses isn’t selling better –
it’s asking better questions.
How do you currently start your first message on LinkedIn?
